Picnic Shelters

Mohican State Park has five different picnic areas and three reservable picnic shelter houses situated throughout the scenic park and forest area. All the picnic areas include picnic tables and waist-high charcoal grills. See Maps page.

The five picnic areas that are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis:

Gorge Overlook Picnic Area (South Park): This picnic area is located at the top of the scenic Clear Fork Gorge. A shelter house (reservable), and nearby pit latrines are available. There is no drinking water provided in this area. Please note, this area is only open during daylight hours.

Covered Bridge Picnic Area: Located next to the Clear Fork of the Mohican River, near the Covered Bridge. This scenic picnic area is also very popular for fishing. The trailhead to Lyons Falls is next to the Covered Bridge. Pit latrines are nearby, drinking water is not provided.

Vista Point Picnic Area: Located just past the Group Camp Area high on a hilltop in a quiet and secluded area.  The Clear Fork Gorge can be viewed from this area. Pit latrine provided, there is no drinking water.

North Park Picnic Area: Located past the State Forest Office at the end of the park road. This area has a large, historic shelter house (reservable) built by the Civilian Conservation Corp. Pit latrines are provided, there is no drinking water.
*** NOTE *** - The North Park shelter is an original 1933 Civilian Conservation Corps structure and is one of the oldest structures in the park. After inspecting the original fireplaces they have been deemed unsafe to use. Until further notice the fireplaces are closed to prevent any additional damage to the structure itself.
