Welcome to Mohican State Park

Mohican State Park and the adjacent State Forest are located in the heart of Mohican Country...Ohio's great vacation region.
The park is comprised of 1,110 acres with 5 miles of the scenic Clear Fork Branch of the Mohican River running through it. The recreational opportunities available to the park visitor include fishing, hiking, picnicking, camping, cottages and a resort lodge.
The Mohican Memorial State Forest surrounds the park with 4,795 acres. Hunting, hiking, and bridle trails are available to the forest visitor.
Mohican State Park is located in southern Ashland County bordered by State Routes 3 and 97, close to Loudonville, Ohio. The park can be easily accessed from Interstate 71.

Proposed Construction
Ohio Department of Transportation plans on resurfacing State Route 97 during the summer of 2008. Please check their website for the current travel conditions. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/

Park Business Office on State Route 97:  Open from 8 to noon and 1 to 5 Mondays - Fridays.

Pool Hours for summer 2008:
Sunday to Thursday 11am to 7pm
Friday & Saturday 11am to 8pm
There is an adult only swim from 10am to 11am daily.

Camp Office and Store Hours 2008:
Sunday to Thursday 8:30 am to 9:30pm
Friday & Saturday & Holidays 8:30am to 10:30pm

The Emerald Ash Borer Quarantine is still in effect. Please purchase your firewood locally and do not move wood when you leave. Visit the Ohio Department of Agriculture web page or call 1-800-OHIO-EAB for further information.
 

Naturalist Schedule for Summer 2008

PROGRAMS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Sunday 11:30am-5pm
12:00 - 1:00pm   Hummingbirds
                           Learn the life history of this interesting bird.     
3:00 - 4:30pm   Nature Hike - Plants in history
                           Moderate hike, wear sturdy shoes (tennis shoes of fine).

Monday & Tuesday - Closed

Wednesday 3-8:00pm
4:00 - 5:30pm Reptiles & Amphibians - Facts & Folklore
                           Includes a hike, wear sturdy shoes (tennis shoes are fine).
7:00 - 8:00pm Gone Birding
                           Bring binoculars if you have them, if not borrow ours.

Thursday 3-8:00pm
4:00 - 5:30pm Gone Fishing
                           Bring your pole if you have one if not borrow one of ours.
7:00 - 8:00pm Nature Bingo
                          

Friday 1-9:30pm
2:00 - 3:00pm  Early Pioneer Games
                           Are you ready to play? Show your skill!
8:00 - 9:30pm Night Flyers - Meet at amphitheater
                           Moths, nighthawks and bats, Oh My!

Saturday 1-9:30pm
2:00 - 4pm   River Walk
                           Come dressed to wade in the Mohican River in search of it's inhabitants.     
8:00 - 9:30pm   Night Hike
                           Flash lights are not necessary.

***** Notice to all visitors attending programs *****
1.) All programs begin at the nature center at the front of the campground unless otherwise noted. Times and programs are subject to change without notice. Programs may be cancelled due to weather conditions.
2.) Please notify Naturalist in advance if special accommodations are needed.
3.) Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all programs.
4.) Be aware that all outdoor activities hold the potential for accidental encounters with POISON IVY, stinging insects, ticks, weather and other natural hazards.
