How many different "Mohican"
campgrounds are there?
Besides Mohican State Park, there are
five (5) other private campgrounds in this area (with
no connection to Mohican State Park) with "Mohican"
in their names: Mohican Adventures Campground, Mohican Valley Camp & Canoe,
Mohican Reservations Campground, Mohican Wilderness Campground, and
Mohican-Butler KOA Campground. It's important to tell your friends and family
which campground you are actually staying at to alleviate possible confusion in
case they try to contact or visit you.
How many campgrounds are in
Mohican State Park?
We have three separate camping areas at Mohican
State Park, the Class A Area, the Class B Area, and the
Group Camp Area. See the
Camping page for more information and the different
amenities each camp area offers. The Camp
Office, which is located in the Class A Camp Area, can answer questions or provide assistance for
all of
the camp areas that are in Mohican State Park. The

Do you have a map
of the camp areas, or the park?
Yes, we have three separate maps on our
Maps
page. One map shows our
Class "A" Camp Area; another map shows the entire Mohican
State Park; and another map shows Mohican-Memorial State
Forest.
Can I make a
reservation for campsites or cottages at Mohican
State Park?
Yes! All of the 25 Cottages, the 3 Camper
Cabins, the 4 Group Camp sites and most of the Campsites at
the Class A Camp Area (153 of
them) are now available through reservations. Reservations can be made by calling 1-800-OHIOPARKS or by
going online at
www.ohiostateparks.org.
How far in advance
can I make the reservation?
Reservations for Cottages can be made one year in
advance. Reservations for Camper Cabins, Group Camp,
and Campsites
can be made six months in advance.
Do you have any
non-reservable campsites?
In the Class A Camp Area there are two
options for first-come, first-serve camping: there are 15
electric only campsites, and there are 10 non-electric
campsites. The non-electric campsites do not offer
on-site parking but there is a parking lot nearby that
accommodates one vehicle per campsite. We also have 25
primitive camp sites in the Class B Camp Area that is
located near the Covered Bridge.
What are the check-in and
check-out times for the campsites and cabins?
Check-in time for campsites is 3:00 p.m. Check-out time for campsites is 1:00 p.m.
What do I need
to have with me when I check into the campground?
Upon your arrival, you will need to check in by filling out a
registration card and verifying any camping discounts (Golden Buckeye or
Cardinal Camper Cards) you may have. Please have your discount cards and
your vehicle license plate number ready before you check in.
What discounts do you offer?
Please go to the
Ohio Department of Natural
Resources Online Reservations page for the discounts that apply to all Ohio
State Parks.
Do you accept the "Passport
America" card?
No, we are one of the Ohio State Parks
that does not accept the "Passport America" card.
Do Disabled Veterans camp
free?
Honorably discharge Ohio resident
veterans with a disability that has been determined by the
Department of Veterans Affairs to be permanently and totally
disabling and who receives a VA pension or compensation are
entitled to camp free of charge in Ohio State Parks. Ohio residents who are former prisoners-of-war are also
exempt from camping fees. Proof of eligibility must
be presented when registering to obtain the discount. Qualifying Ohio resident veterans may request a letter
confirming their eligibility for free camping in Ohio State
Parks by calling Veteran Affairs at 1-800-827-1000.
Are any of the
campsites along the river?
Campsites in the Class A Camp Area that are along the
Clear Fork Branch of the Mohican River are: Non-electric,
walk-in campsites numbered 5–10; Electric-only campsites
numbered 68–85, then even numbers from 86–104, also
numbers 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, 148, 150, 152, and 153. There are no full hook-up sites along the river. See

bridge, all 25 campsites are close to the river (the camp
road is between the campsites and the river.)
Do you have any
campsites that are away from everyone?
Mohican State Park is one of the most popular parks in
Ohio. Its campsites are usually full every single
day from mid-June through mid-August and as such cannot
be considered secluded.
Can a juvenile camp without their
parent?
Juveniles (under 18 years of age) can
camp without a parent, but each juvenile must have written
permission from their parent or legal guardian, before they
can register for a campsite. The written permission
must contain the following information: Name of the
juvenile, that the juvenile is allowed to stay at Mohican
State Park, the dates the juvenile is allowed to stay, a
phone number where the parent or legal guardian can be
contacted, and the parent's or legal guardian's signature.
Can we swim in the
river?
The river that flows through Mohican State Park
is not a
designated swimming area. The river is best suited for
other activities such as tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and
fishing. Registered Class A Camp Area campers
or cottage guests have an outside pool available for them to swim at.
Can I bring my pet
camping or to the cottages?
Pets are prohibited in the cottages and the camper
cabins. You may have pets on any of our campsites: dog
or cat only, and no more than two pets per campsite, and you
must follow our pet camping rules. There is no
additional charge for pets.
Do you have
internet hook-ups to any of the campsites or
cottages?
No, there isn't any internet service to our campsites or
the cottages.
For
the electrical hook-up, how many amps are provided?
All of the campsites with electrical hook-ups are
equipped to handle up to 50 amps of electricity.
Is there a public
telephone we can use?
In the Class A Camp Area the public telephone is
located on the outside wall of our swimming pool complex. This telephone uses only credit card or calling cards.
Can we use our cell phone in the
park?
Cell phone service is very limited in the
Mohican area. Please let friends and family know that they
may not be able to get a hold of you.
Are alcoholic
beverages allowed at Mohican State Park?
Public display and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages
is prohibited in Ohio State Parks.
Can I get a refund
if it rains?
We cannot give refunds for rainy or poor weather
conditions.
How many occupants
can we have on a campsite or cottage?
You may have a maximum of six persons on one campsite or
in a cottage.
How many tents can
we have on a campsite?
The number of tents allowed on a campsite is limited by
the combined floor space of the tents, which cannot exceed
200 square feet. Remember, campsite occupancy is
limited to 6 people.
Is there a trailer waste station
in Mohican State Park?
Yes, the trailer waste station is located
in the Class A Camp Area. It is free for the
registered campers at Mohican State Park to use. Non-registered campers
and Class B campers who want to use the trailer waste
station will be charged a fee of $10.

What is the check-in time and the
check-out time for the cottages?
For the cottages,
the check-in time is 4:00 p.m. Please note,
early arrivals prior to 4:00 p.m. can not be accommodated. Check-out time 11:00 a.m.
Do you have hot
tubs?
We don't have hot tubs in the cottages or the camper
cabins.
Do you have a
swimming pool?
We have an outdoor in-ground heated Olympic size swimming
pool with an adjacent kiddy pool. It is only for the use of
the registered Class A Camp Area campers and the cottage
guests.
What are the pool
hours?
The swimming pool is open from Memorial Day Weekend
through Labor Day Weekend. During this time the pool
is open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on weekdays and from
11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The pool is
open for adult swim each day from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Is there an indoor or outdoor pool
available for any of the park's visitors?
Yes, there is an indoor and outdoor pool
at the Mohican State Park Resort Lodge. The Lodge
charges a fee for using their pools.
What kind of
activities do you have at Mohican State Park?
At the Class "A" Camp Area, we have a basketball court, a
volleyball court, a playground, a swimming pool, a game room
at the commissary, and naturalist programs from Memorial Day
Weekend until Labor Day.
What is Emerald Ash Borer? Why can't I bring firewood from my home?
Emerald Ash Borer is an ash tree-killing insect that has affected
ash trees in various counties throughout Ohio, Michigan, and other part
of the Midwest. As a result of the spread of this insect, several
counties have been placed under quarantine and firewood cannot be
transported from those counties. In an effort to reduce the chances of
the Emerald Ash Borer affecting our trees, Mohican State Park asks that
you to purchase your firewood locally, be it in Ashland County or other
bordering counties. Please go to

I think we have
friends camping here. Can we go look for them? Or may we drive through and just look at the
campsites?
In the Class A Camp Area, we welcome all visitors to
drive through to look at our campsites from September (after
Labor Day) until Memorial Day Weekend. From Memorial
Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend, the Class A Camp Area
is a controlled-access area. Motor vehicle operation within the Class A Camp Area is restricted for direct transportation
by registered campers only, to and from the campsites.
